Calera, Central Coast Pinot Noir 2018
Rather than follow the recommended path, in 1975 winemaker Josh Jensen became an American pioneer in search of the perfect spot to grow grapes. Taking his cue from Burgundy, he set out in search of sites in California which boast the same limestone-rich soils to create wines unique to the world but in the style of the greatest wines of France - and thus Calera (Spanish for "lime-kiln") was born. This Pinot Noir is taken from sites across the Central Coast and carries all the expert hallmarks of Calera. Tightly wound aromas of pomegranate, strawberry, earth and star anise lead into a crisp yet savoury palate of raspberry and ripe cherry. Pinches of dried sage and thyme linger on the finish. A great wine to pair with duck or venison.
